One of the worst things you experience as a mom is when your little one comes down with sickness. You of course want to do absolutely everything possible to get them back to their normal selves, so this is why I put together a list of all my favorite must haves for baby's medicine cabinet.
No, I am not a doctor. I am just a mom who has tried several different products and found which ones I like the most and cannot live without. Or products that other moms are raving about.
Below you will find my list of all the essentials that I think every parent should keep in their medicine cabinet in order to fight cold, fever, coughs, ear ache, diaper rash, and much more.
Several of these products have helped us fight of those stubborn sicknesses and find quick relief.
1.Gripe Water
This is something that I used EVERY single day for the first couple months after Oaklynn was born. Oaklynn got the hiccups at least three times a day, so I would just give her a couple drops of Gripe Water, which would relieve them instantly. And when I say instantly, I mean instantly. My main use of Gripe Water was for hiccups, although several moms say they used it for acid reflux, gas, calming the stomach, etc.
2. Aquaphor
Another product that I use EVERY single day. I absolutely love Aquaphor. I use this for both diaper rash and for cracked and dry skin. My little one, who is 7 months old, has never had diaper rash. I put Aquaphor on her bottom every time I change her diaper, in order to prevent it. In addition, one of my friends on Facebook asked moms what they prefer to get rid of diaper rash and 90% of moms recommended Aquaphor, even over Desitin, Burt's Bees, and A + D. Aquaphor is a little more expensive than other diaper rash creams, although I have had my jar for 7 months now and have maybe used half of it!
3. NoseFrida
NoseFrida is so so so much more useful than the bulbs they give you at the hospital. You get so much more out of your baby's nose as it allows all the suction that you can get out of your lungs! When your little one is sick, the NoseFrida is an absolute godsend, as it helps them sleep so much better with no more clogged noses!
4. Electric Nail Trimmer
Oaklynn was terrible about scratching her head and leaving scratches and scabs all over. And no her nails were never long, I cut them all the time. Although, I think at times I was not getting them cut straight, which made them sharper. I then went to trying to file them with my nail file. Which still was not working that great. I then came across this electric nail trimmer and I wish I would have ordered it from day one! There would have been a lot less scratches and a lot less worrying about the possibility of clipping her skin.
5. Oogiebear
This and the NoseFrida are the perfect duo. Use the NoseFrida to suck out the snot and the oogiebear for all those pesky boogers that fill up your baby's nose. The oogiebear is great as it has two different ends. Use the scoop side for dried boogers and the loop side for sticky ones. No more having to use your fingernail! This is also great for getting wax out of their ears!
6. Thermometer
This is my all time favorite thermometer! I have found it to be the most accurate out of all the thermometers I have tried. It is fast, easy to use, and has a large light up screen so no need to turn on the lights to take a temperature in the dark. The best feature is that you can take off the head and it turns into an ear thermometer! How awesome is that? It also has an audible fever alarm feature. You can test the temperature of liquids as well, although I have not tried out this feature yet. Comes with a bag to store it in too! LOVE this thermometer as it is accurate and has tons of great features!
7. Pedialyte
Designed to replace fluids and electrolytes more effectively than sports drinks. Pedialyte provides an optimal balance of sugar and electrolytes to prevent mild to moderate dehydration as well. I love the Pedialyte packets as I can keep them in my purse, diaper bag, at the house, and they are handy whenever I need them.
8. Motrin
I have not had to use a pain reliever/fever reducer yet. Lucky me! Although, I did some reading through children's pain relievers and this is what I ordered to keep on hand. It has the best reviews and several moms prefer this Motrin over Tylenol and other fever reducers. They say it works wonders for teething, fevers, ear infection, pain relief, after shots, etc. They also say it tastes better and goes to work faster than Tylenol.
9. Boogie Wipes
These are AMAZING. My sister had these, and the first time I used one, I used it on myself. I instantly ordered them, knowing they would be great for my little one. They work wonders on breaking up hard crusty boogers. I would have to say they are much better than Kleenux as they are made with moisturizing Aloe, Chamomile, and Vitamin E, and cause no redness or soreness. They are definitely well worth the money!
10. Natural Teething Relief
My little one is not in full swing of teething yet, but when she is, this is going to be one of the first things I buy. Anything to provide my little one with pain relief! Several moms say this oil instantly stops the painful cries and fussiness once applied. And they go back to being their happy selves!
11. Cradle Cap Brush
Literally, the BEST cradle cap brush you will ever find! Only a couple uses of this brush and the cradle cap will be cleared up! Oaklynn's cradle cap was not terrible but it worked wonders! Look at the reviews and see for yourself how well this brush works, it will AMAZE you! Coconut oil was also a great addition to helping relieve Oaklynn's cradle cap and her dry scalp.
12. Mullein and Garlic Oil
I have not had to use this Garlic Oil, although if your little one has an ear infection, several moms say it works WONDERS! They highly recommend it for ear infections and some even say it saved them from having to go to the doctor's, as it completely cleared their little one from symptoms in under 48 hours. Other moms say everyone needs these oils, they do not ever want to be without them, and to order them NOW!
13. Cough Syrup
I did a lot of reading and looking around before I came across this baby cough syrup. Several moms said that other brands made their little one projectile vomit instantly, so no thank you! Mommy's Bliss is definitely the way to go! It provided quick relief and cured overnight cough. A great elderberry natural product that helps boost immunity as well!
14. Chest Rub
Zarbee's Naturals Chest Rub is the key to helping your baby sleep better at night if they have a stuffy nose. Several moms say their little ones LOVE this stuff and will go running to get Zarbee's Chest Rub themselves when they are not feeling well. Works for a calming relief and helps with decongestion, getting through those winter month colds, coughs, irritated skin and so much more! Moms say Zarbee's is so much better than any other brand they have tried and plus, it smells AMAZING!
15. Saline Nasal Spray
Miracle Spray. This product definitely does its job. Works well for decongestion and removing those dry crusty boogers. The best part is, several moms say their kids love this spray and want to do it themselves! Win!
16. Eye Care Wipes
The gentlest and most effective eyelid wipes that are absolutely free of preservatives, alcohol, and other irritants. Clean away dirt buildup and help alleviate clogged tear ducts and irritation. I am so so happy that I found these. Oaklynn has a clogged tear duct so she was always waking up with mattery eyes that were sometimes completely crusted over. These were wonderful for wiping the eye boogers and gunk from her eyes!
17. Prunes
Well you might not keep prunes in your medicine cabinet, but I would definitely keep them on hand. Is your baby constipated? Prunes will do the trick. One of my friends told me that her little boy had not pooped in a couple days, so she gave him some prunes. The next thing you know she is sending me a picture that night of her husband and her baby, with poop running down her baby's legs and onto her husband's pants!
18. Sunscreen
For sunscreen, moms love Thinkbaby sunscreen as it is one of the safest sunscreens out there, as it is not toxic. Rubs and absorbs into the skin easily, eco-friendy, safe, smells great, and effective. Would highly recommend this sunscreen!
19. Eraorganics Calendula Cream
Holy smokes, do I love this stuff! Oaklynn had eczema on her legs and arms and I tried several different creams and ointments to try and get rid of it. Nothing worked, until I ran into this stuff! Goes on smoothly and works wonders to relieve her eczema and dry skin. She also had a rash and a flaky dry scalp that she was constantly scratching at leaving cuts all over. I applied Eraorganics Calendula Cream and it got rid of her dry skin and irritations quickly! I have applied it to chapped cheeks as well! And I absolutely love that it is organic! Seriously, if your little one has eczema or skin irritations this is the stuff to relieve it!
20. Active Skin Repair
I have not had to try out this stuff on my little one yet, as she isn't quite mobile in order to get all sorts of scrapes and cuts. But this is definitely going to be the anti-bacterial ointment I am going to use. The reviews on this product are amazing and all the other moms have me sold on it before I have even had the chance to use it! Use on scrapes, scratches, diaper rash, eczema, rashes, etc. This stuff starts healing over night! I looked at reviewers pictures and was amazed by how fast this stuff heals! The best part is it is anti-bacterial along with natural and non-toxic!
21. Baby Q-Tips
If you have a little one, you need these q-tips! They are safety swabs, so no sticking the q-tip too deep. You will feel way more comfortable using these than regular q-tips as you know you will not be entering the ear canal. Perfectly designed for the safe cleaning of little ears.
22, Humidifier
Yes, you won't keep this in your medicine cabinet, but it is definitely something you need. I love this humidifier as it is quiet, has four time settings (1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, and continuous), waterless auto-off function, soothing LED lights, strong or standard mist option, and a humidifier and diffuser in one. In addition to all of this, I believe this humidifier to be much better appealing to the eye as well!
23. Bug Spray
I LOVE this bug spray, as it is safe for kiddos. Effective and gentle on the skin. No bites means no itching and irritation. Plus, this stuff smells way better than the average bug spray.
24. After Bite
Definitely recommend this product! Your kids will absolutely love it as they will get relief from bug bites quickly! Well in all honestly, you will most likely love this product as well, I have used it several times! The best after bite cream out there!
25. Baby Active Skin Repair
Baby Active Skin Repair kicks the rash to the curb that won’t quit! Active Skin Repair is natural, non-toxic (no harsh chemicals, added fragrances, or petroleum), sting free, and safe to use around the eyes, ears, and mouth.
Active Skin Repair uses a proprietary, doctor-recommended and clinically proven formulation of HOCI, a medical grade product used in hospitals! HOCI is a molecule produced by our bodies in response to injury that kills bacteria and supports the natural healing process.
There are so many things to love about Baby Active Skin Repair! It is a spray so no having to touch baby’s bottom, along with getting sticky diaper rash cream all over your hands! It kills 99.9% of bacteria, and not to mention all of the properties listed above, such as non-toxic, sting free, etc. And guess what? It is not only made for diaper rash! Use it for chafing and other skin irritations such as burns, stings, scrapes, scratches, etc.
Thank you for stopping by! I hope all you parents find some great products to provide relief for your little one!
